Consultant: Demonstrating the Environmental, Social & Economic Impact of Improved Retorts in ASGM Communities for P2P Gold Programme in Kenya & Tanzania

The Solidaridad Eastern and Central Africa is seeking a consultant to assess the environmental, social, and economic impacts of improved retorts in artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) communities under the Pathways to Prosperity (P2P) Gold Programme in Kenya and Tanzania. This role focuses on evaluating how upgrades to retort technology contribute to sustainable, inclusive, and mercury-free mining while supporting the project’s goal of a resilient ASGM sector by 2029. The consultant will design a methodology, collect data, and present findings to inform policy and business decisions for miners and downstream stakeholders. This is a 7-year project spanning Geita and Shinyanga (Tanzania) and Kenya’s Migori, Narok, Kakamega, and Turkana Counties.
