Ashoka-Carnegie Challenge 2026/2027 for Civic Leadership

The Carnegie Challenge for Civic Leadership supports young changemakers aged 20 and under who are leading or part of youth-led projects that address community challenges. Participants can win seed funding, access training, and join an in-person convening to connect with peers and build skills. The programme is open to applicants from Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, the United States, and U.S. territories.

What it offers

• Multiple funding pathways, including seed grants for early applicants and awards for finalists and winners.
• Peer feedback via the Challenge platform and access to on-demand trainings and live support sessions.
• Opportunity to become a certified Ashoka Youth Venturer (certification criteria provided).
• In-person convening with travel, accommodation, meals, and chaperone support for eligible participants.

Who can apply

• Individuals aged 20 or younger by January 31, 2027.
• Must be based in Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, the United States, or U.S. territories.
• Projects must be youth-led, with the primary lead under 20 years of age.
• Applications must be submitted in English.

• Register for an info session, live support session, or office hour for guidance.
• Submit an application by the Early Application Deadline (October 10 for Kenya/Nigeria/South Africa; November 17 for the U.S.) or the Final Deadline (January 31, 2027).
• Applications are reviewed based on Dream, Team, Creativity, Changed World, and Resources and Support criteria.
