Master in Ocean Sciences Scholarship 2027

The South African Master in Ocean Sciences (SAMOS) programme offers a funded pathway for postgraduate students to gain interdisciplinary training in ocean sciences, with applications managed through the University of Cape Town and coursework delivered at Nelson Mandela University.

What it offers

• A full-time, 180-credit Master programme starting February 2027, comprising 90 credits of coursework and 90 credits of minor dissertation.
• Coursework delivered at the Nelson Mandela University Ocean Sciences Campus in Gqeberha over 24 weeks between February and August 2027.
• Students must be physically present at Nelson Mandela University during the coursework period.
• Includes a seminar series with national and international experts and site visits to public and private sector stakeholders.

Who can apply

• Open to recent graduates and professionals with a minimum of five years’ work experience.
• Candidates who don’t meet academic requirements may apply via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) if they meet the work experience requirement.

How to apply

• Applications for the 2027 cohort are managed through a single-entry point at the University of Cape Town (UCT).
• Applicants will register at UCT or Nelson Mandela University (subject to accreditation).
