KAS-SAIIA Scholarship 2027

The KAS-SAIIA Scholarship 2027 supports master’s students in International Relations, Development Studies, Political Science, Economics, Law, Journalism, and related humanities and social sciences through a combined academic and work placement.

What it offers

• A full bursary for tuition fees
• A monthly stipend to cover living costs and accommodation

Who can apply

• Prospective students applying for a master’s degree in specified fields
• Applicants must meet the entry requirements for a master’s at the relevant university
• Age limit: not older than 30 years
• Students who have already completed the first year of their master’s are not eligible

What you'll do

• Enrol in a master’s degree with coursework in specified fields
• Work at SAIIA in either Johannesburg or Cape Town
• Receive mentorship and support to develop methodological, research, and writing skills
• Co-author articles in SAIIA publications
• Improve presentation and organisational skills

How to apply

• Complete the application form
• Applications open on 29 July 2026
• Submit by 1 September 2026
• Choose either Johannesburg or Cape Town; dual applications will not be considered
• If university admission status is unclear at the deadline, note this in the cover letter

• The internship runs from 1 February to 30 November each year
• SAIIA’s Johannesburg office focuses on economic resilience and African diplomacy and governance
• SAIIA’s Cape Town office focuses on futures and climate change programmes
