Young African Phosphorus Fellowship Awards for African Researchers in Kenya (2026)

The African Phosphorus Fellowship Award supports early-career African scientists working to improve phosphorus management in African crop systems.

What it offers

• Up to five awards of USD $5,000 each to full-time scientists in African NARES institutions or universities.
• Funds support new research, data synthesis, or travel directly tied to phosphorus (P) management in field or tree crop systems.

Who can apply

• Full-time scientists based at an African NARES institution or university.
• Applicants must have completed a Ph.D.
• Postdoctoral researchers are eligible.
• Female scientists are especially encouraged to apply.

What you'll do

• Develop a creative proposal addressing knowledge gaps in P management, ideally linking to one or more of:
  • 4R Nutrient Stewardship
  • Carbon farming
  • Soil health
  • Precision farming
• Use the award to advance research, synthesize data, or conduct fieldwork that improves P management in African agroecosystems.

• A proposal describing how the Fellowship will improve P management, including research, data synthesis, or travel plans.
• Two signed letters of support (one from your supervisor), on official letterhead, including email and phone contact.
• A resume including date of birth, academic degrees, and relevant publications on P behavior in soil, water, or plants.
• A short report at the end of the award period detailing how funds were used and outcomes achieved.
