STIAS Iso Lomso Fellowships for Early Career African Researchers 2022

STIAS offers the Iso Lomso Fellowship for early-career African researchers under the age of 42 who are based at an African institution.

What it offers

• Residency at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study for one semester (either mid-January to mid-June or mid-July to mid-December).
• Participation in the STIAS Fellows’ seminar on Tuesdays and Thursdays, including presenting your work to other Fellows and local academics.
• Lunch at the STIAS Wallenberg Research Centre from Monday to Friday during residency.

Who can apply

• Early-career African scholars under the age of 42.
• Researchers based at an African institution.

How to apply

• Submit an application via the dedicated online form.
• Required documents include:
  • A cover letter with a motivational statement.
  • A project proposal of between 2 and 4 pages, including objectives and significance.
  • A comprehensive CV with a list of publications.
  • One or two recent published articles or outputs related to the proposed project.

Good to know

• Applications open on 1 July and close on 31 October for the first semester.
• Selection feedback is provided by 31 March of the following year.
• Preference is given to first-time applicants during a five-year cycle.
