Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS) Program 2027
About this opportunity
Free academic and leadership program for African secondary school students (ages 14–18) aspiring to pursue higher education and impact the continent.
The Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS) Program 2027 is a free, two-part enrichment program for African secondary school students aiming to pursue higher education and lead on the continent. It includes an online College Prep Workshop (15–20 July 2027) and a residential Leadership Summit in Rwanda (7–15 August 2027). Both programs focus on academic skills, university admissions guidance, and leadership development. Preference is given to high-achieving, low-income students lacking university support in their schools.
Online Workshop Highlights: Career exploration, university application prep, and transition support. Certificate of Completion awarded upon completion. Strict attendance required—no missed days allowed.
Residential Summit Highlights: Same academic prep plus leadership, innovation, and 21st-century skills. Free tuition, housing, meals, and materials, but students must fund their own travel (with need-based Travel Grants available for eligible applicants).
Eligibility: Open to all African secondary school students; preference to high-achieving, low-income (HALI) students without university guidance.
Past programs have taken place in Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, and Ethiopia.
