African Union Internship Program 2026

The African Union Internship Program offers recent graduates and final-year students a structured, full-time opportunity to gain professional experience within the AU’s departments in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

What it offers

• A three-month internship, renewable one time for a total of six months.
• No financial compensation; interns cover their own travel, accommodation, and living expenses.
• Interns must arrange and pay for their own individual insurance coverage for the duration.

Who can apply

• Nationals of an African Union Member State.
• Enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree or have obtained a Bachelor’s or advanced/postgraduate (Masters) qualification.
• No more than thirty-two (32) years of age at the time of selection.
• Fluent in at least one AU working language (Arabic, English, French, or Portuguese).
• Full-time students currently enrolled in their final year or graduate program.

• Provide administrative and technical support across departments such as:
  • Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment (ARBE)
  • Economic Development, Trade, Industry, Mining (ETIM)
  • Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (ESTI)
  • Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS)
  • Human Resources Management (HRM)
  • Information and Communication
  • Women, Gender and Youth (WGY)
  • Office of the Legal Counsel (OLC)

How to apply

• Apply online via the AU careers portal.
• First-time users must register before logging in.
• Submit:
  • A motivation letter outlining expected learning outcomes
  • A copy of valid passport or national identity card
  • Certified copies of relevant academic certificates
  • Current CV (using the mandatory AU CV template)
  • Recommendation letter from your academic institution
• You will receive an email confirmation upon successful submission.

Good to know

• Prior work experience is not required.
• The AU assists with entry and residence visa applications but does not cover costs.
• Renewal is not guaranteed and is subject to performance and availability.
