The African Union Internship Program offers recent graduates and final-year students a chance to gain professional experience within the AU while contributing to its mission of African integration and sustainable development.

What it offers

• A full-time, three-month internship renewable one time for a total of six months
• Exposure to AU departments such as Agriculture, Trade, Education, Peace and Security, Human Resources, and more
• Professional development in a multicultural environment aligned with AU values: respect for diversity, transparency, integrity, and efficiency

Who can apply

• Nationals of an African Union Member State
• Enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree OR holders of a Bachelor’s or advanced (Masters) degree
• No more than 32 years of age at the time of selection
• Fluent in at least one AU working language: Arabic, English, French, or Portuguese
• Full-time students currently enrolled in their final year or recent graduates

What you'll do

• Provide administrative and technical support to AU programs and projects
• Assist in departments including:
  • Cabinet of the Chairperson
  • Economic Development, Trade, Industry, Mining (ETIM)
  • Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS)
  • Human Resources Management (HRM)
  • Information and Communication
  • Women, Gender and Youth (WGY)
  • And more

How to apply

• Submit an online application
• Register first if using the system for the first time
• Upload the following:
  • Motivation letter outlining expected learning outcomes
  • Copy of valid passport or national ID
  • Certified copies of academic certificates
  • Current CV (using the mandatory AU CV template)
  • Recommendation letter from your academic institution
• Receive email confirmation upon successful submission

Good to know

• The AU does not provide financial support—interns cover travel, accommodation, and living expenses
• Interns must have individual insurance coverage for the duration
• No compensation is provided for travel or work
• The AU assists with visa applications but does not cover medical travel or evacuation
