AIMS AI for Science Master's Programme

The AI for Science Master’s Programme at AIMS, supported by Google DeepMind, offers a fully funded scholarship for African students pursuing a Master’s degree in artificial intelligence and related fields. The programme targets students with strong computational and mathematical backgrounds, preparing them for research and industry careers in AI.

Who can apply

• Must be a resident of Africa at the time of application (exceptions for war-displaced students).
• Must be a citizen of any African country.
• Must have completed a four-year undergraduate degree or a three-year degree with an honours year by August 2025 (or December 2025 for southern African applicants).
• Must not have previously held a scholarship to study at an AIMS centre.
• Undergraduate degree should be in physics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, or a related discipline with a strong computational and mathematical component.

How to apply

• Register at apply.aims.ac.za and upload the following documents before 11:59 PM on 6 March 2026:
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Motivation letter (around 500 words)
  • Academic transcripts
  • Representative examples of work in mathematical sciences
  • Coding problem (available on the application site)
• Shortlisted candidates will be invited for online interviews in May 2026.
• Forty students will be selected for the 2026 intake.

Good to know

• Applications for the 2026-27 academic year open in December 2025.
• The selection process includes an online application round and interviews.
• Early application is encouraged as the process cannot be completed at the last minute.
