Sasol Mining Fence-line (Mainstream) Programme 2026

Sasol Mining’s Fence-line (Mainstream) Bursary Programme funds full-time undergraduate degrees in selected engineering, science and technology fields for South African citizens from Sasol Mining fence-line communities.

What it offers

• Registration fees and tuition fees (no payment for repeat modules)
• Pocket money and meal allowance
• Accommodation allowance equal to the average rate for a single room in a university residence
• A once-off computer and calculator allowance
• Work opportunities with a work-back/pay-back obligation based on company needs
• Development opportunities such as vacation work after completing the 2nd and 3rd academic years
• Psycho-social support including student discussions, workshops and an employee assistance programme
• Payments are made twice a year, at the beginning of each semester

Who can apply

• South African citizens by birth only
• Applicants must reside in Sasol Mining fence-line communities
• Currently enrolled or intending to enrol full-time at a public South African university or university of technology
• Studying or planning to study one of the following degrees:
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Geology (Honours degree is mandatory)
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mining Engineering
  • Mine Surveying (University of Johannesburg only)
• Must be in 1st to 4th year of study

What you'll do

• Maintain full-time registration and satisfactory academic progress
• Participate in work opportunities and development activities as required by Sasol

• Applications must be submitted online via the Sasol bursaries website before the closing date
• Only one application per student will be accepted
• Incomplete or late applications will not be considered

Good to know

• Bursaries are awarded conditionally and activation depends on maintaining equivalent academic performance
• Bursaries are performance-based with a work-back/pay-back obligation
• Studies at UNISA are not considered
• Bursaries are not awarded for dual/combined/hybrid degrees
• Fraudulent information may result in withdrawal of the bursary offer
