Human Rights Watch (HRW) Africa Division Internship 2026-2027 in Nairobi

The Africa Division of Human Rights Watch is offering a part-time internship in Nairobi to support research and projects in Uganda and Tanzania.

What it offers

Who can apply

• Currently enrolled undergraduate/graduate students or recent graduates.
• Must possess valid work authorization in Kenya for the duration of the internship.
• Strong interest in human rights is essential.
• Proficient reading and writing skills in Swahili are required.
• Proficient reading and writing skills in any indigenous Ugandan language is beneficial.
• Well-organized, self-motivated, reliable, with strong attention to detail.
• Relevant coursework and computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, internet applications) are highly desirable.

What you'll do

• Conduct desk research, including legal and background research on human rights issues in Uganda and Tanzania.
• Monitor and compile reports on Ugandan and Tanzanian news media.
• Assist in translating documents in Swahili when necessary.
• Attend and provide support on internal meetings, including note and minute taking.
• Other projects may be assigned as they arise and match the intern’s interests and abilities.
• Opportunities to attend lectures, trainings, professional development workshops, and/or special events relating to human rights, as well as network with other HRW interns, volunteers, and employees.
