External Examiner (English)

Iconic Open University seeks academics to serve as External Examiners and Project/Dissertation/Thesis Co-Supervisors for its programmes, with a focus on English among other disciplines.

What it offers

• Contract-based roles as External Examiner or Project Co-Supervisor for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
• Tenure is specified per assignment, with terms that may change over time.

Who can apply

• Must hold a Ph.D. in their field from an accredited institution.
• Must be at the rank of Senior Lecturer or higher; Reader or Professor preferred for postgraduate supervision.
• Must have relevant expertise in the specified discipline (e.g., English).
• Must demonstrate prior experience as an external examiner at recognized tertiary institutions (preferred).
• Must have a track record of postgraduate supervision and research publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals.
• Must be independent of Iconic Open University, with no conflict of interest, including:
  • No current or recent employment at Iconic Open University (within the last three years).
  • No close professional, contractual, or personal relationships with staff or students involved in the programme.
  • No significant recent collaborative research with programme staff.
  • No reciprocal arrangements with cognate programmes at another institution.
  • Not a former student of the University (unless five years have elapsed and all students taught have completed their programmes).

Additional preferred qualifications

• Strong publication record in reputable journals within the last three years.
• Experience in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) environments.
• Familiarity with e-assessment and virtual examination platforms.
• Evidence of leadership in research and postgraduate supervision.
