African Plant Nutrition Outreach Fellowship 2026

The African Plant Nutrition Outreach Fellowship supports African professionals in improving plant nutrient use through education and communication programs.

What it offers

• Awards of USD $5,000 each to African scientists, extension specialists, or educators.

Who can apply

• Full-time scientists, extension specialists, or educators working at an African NARES institution, university, non-profit organization, or in the private sector.
• Students are not eligible.
• Female candidates are especially encouraged to apply.

What you'll do

• Submit a creative plan addressing knowledge gaps or synthesis of existing information for improved soil fertility management in African agro-ecosystems.
• Plans should align with at least one of APNI’s high-priority initiatives, such as:
  • 4R Nutrient Stewardship
  • Nutrient and Water Management Innovations for Resilient Agriculture for African Drylands
  • Soil Health Nutrient Management and Diagnostics
  • Precision Farming
  • Farmer-led On-farm Innovation
• Evidence of partnerships and collaboration will be favourably reviewed.

How to apply

• Submit a description of how the Fellowship will improve outreach or implementation of soil fertility management, including new initiatives, data synthesis, communication tools, training events, or travel.
• Provide two letters of support, one from the applicant’s supervisor, signed and on official letterhead, including the writer’s phone number and email.
• Include a resume/CV with academic degrees and relevant publications or communication products on soil fertility management.
• Prepare documents in advance as electronic (PDF) copies for upload during the online application process.
• A short report on fund usage and outcomes will be required at the end of the award period.
