The Miles Morland Foundation offers writing scholarships for African writers to support new book projects in English.

What it offers

• A writing scholarship for a new book project in English.

Who can apply

• Anyone writing in English who was born in Africa.
• Anyone writing in English whose both parents were born in Africa.

What you'll do

• Submit a 2,000 to 5,000-word piece as a Word document of work that has been published and offered for sale.
• Provide proof of publication and proof of sale.
• Submit a scan of an official document showing that you, or both of your parents, were born in Africa.
• Include a 400–1,000-word description of the new book you intend to write.
• Provide a 200–300-word brief bio.
• State how you heard about the Morland Writing Scholarships.

How to apply

• Complete the Writing Scholarship Application Form 2026 available on the Miles Morland Foundation website.
• Ensure all six required items from the checklist are enclosed with the application.
