The African Union’s 2026 internship programme offers recent graduates and penultimate-year students from AU member states a three-month, full-time placement in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with the possibility of a single renewal.

What it offers

• A three-month internship at the African Union headquarters in Addis-Abeba, Ethiopia, renewable once per candidate.
• Practical experience in departments such as Agriculture and Environment, Economic Development, Political Affairs, Human Resources, Information and Communication, and more.
• Professional development in a multicultural environment without salary, stipend, or travel reimbursement.

Who can apply

• Citizens of an African Union member state.
• Currently enrolled in the final year of a bachelor’s degree or holding a bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
• Under 32 years of age at the time of selection.
• Fluent in at least one AU working language: Arabic, English, French or Portuguese.
• Able to demonstrate good conduct and no serious criminal record.

What you'll do

• Provide administrative and technical support to AU programmes and projects.
• Work across departments including the Office of the Chairperson, Agriculture and Environment, Political Affairs, Human Resources, Information and Communication, and others.

How to apply

• Register on the portal if it is your first time.
• Submit:
  • A motivation letter outlining your expectations
  • A copy of a valid passport or national ID
  • Certified copies of university degrees and transcripts
  • An up-to-date CV
  • A letter of recommendation from your academic institution

Good to know

• The AU does not cover travel, accommodation, living or evacuation costs; you must arrange and pay for your own insurance.
• The AU will assist with entry and stay visas.
