Robert S. McNamara Fellowships Program (RSMFP)

The Robert S. McNamara Fellowships Program (RSMFP) pairs early-career researchers from developing countries with World Bank economists to conduct policy-relevant research in Washington, D.C.

What it offers

• 8-month fellowship in Washington, D.C. from September to May each year.
• Supervision by World Bank Development Economics (DEC) researchers in the Development Impact (DIME) and Development Research Group departments.
• One-week technical onboarding at the start, including training on reproducible research practices.
• Hands-on trainings and seminars led by top economists.
• Opportunity to contribute to DEC’s published work, co-author with DEC researchers, join field missions, or engage with World Bank clients.
• Invitation to write a blog based on fellowship research; the top 4 blogs are published on DEC’s Let’s Talk Development blog.

• Participate in rigorous, policy-relevant research projects under direct supervision.
• Engage in high-quality research, acquire new econometric skills, and network with leading researchers.

• Write a research blog to share findings and contribute to development policy discussions.

• The RSMFP was established in 1982 and initially funded by the governments of Bangladesh, China, India, Kuwait, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, and former Yugoslavia.
• Governance includes a Steering Committee, Selection Committee, and Secretariat.
• Fellows are matched with DEC researchers based on research interests and project needs.
