IBRO Seeding Neuroscience Grants 2026

The IBRO Seeding Neuroscience Grants fund inaugural activities that help establish new neuroscience societies or thematic networks in regions with limited formal neuroscience structures.

What it offers

• Maximum grant amounts vary by region:
  • Asia-Pacific: 2,000 USD
  • Africa: 5,000 USD
  • Latin America: 4,000 USD
• Eligible costs include venue rental, participant travel and accommodation, event materials, audio-visual and technology costs (for hybrid events), and administrative costs (up to 10% of the total requested budget).
• Ineligible costs include salaries or stipends for organizers, honoraria for speakers, equipment purchases, and costs not directly tied to the activity.

Who can apply

• Groups of scientists or organizations working toward forming a formal neuroscience society or thematic network.
• Emerging neuroscience societies or groups in regions with little or no formal neuroscience exchange.
• Applicants must have a clear, actionable plan to launch a formal society or thematic network.
• At least one letter of support from recognized neuroscience leaders or institutions is required.

What you'll do

• Propose an inaugural activity such as governance planning or strategic workshops.
• Activities must:
  • Align with IBRO’s values for diversity and inclusion.
  • Take place in 2027.
  • Be held in-person or in a hybrid format (fully virtual activities are not eligible).

How to apply

• Submit a detailed application including:
  • Applicant organization or group overview.
  • Activity description (title, dates, format, location, goals, target audience, and draft agenda).
  • Provisional program with organizing committee and list of attendees.
  • Budget breakdown with justifications for eligible expenses.
  • Long-term sustainability plan for the proposed society or network.
  • Letters of support (at least one).
  • Diversity and inclusion efforts description.
  • IBRO visibility plans.
• Applications are currently closed and will reopen from 1 September 2026 to 30 September 2026.

Good to know

• The grant is awarded in an 80:20 format: 80% of the grant is provided two months before the activity, and the remaining 20% is provided upon completion and submission of the grant report.
• The funding report must be submitted no later than three months after the activity concludes.
