Coimbra Group Scholarship Programme for Early-career Researchers from Sub-Saharan Africa 2026

The Coimbra Group Scholarship Programme offers short-term research visits in Europe for early-career researchers from Sub-Saharan Africa.

What it offers

• Short-term research visits lasting 1–3 months maximum.
• Funding provided by participating Coimbra Group member universities.
• Aimed at supporting research related to scholars' work at their home institutions while fostering academic collaborations with European scientists and institutions.

Who can apply

• Applicants must be born on or after 1 January 1981.
• Must be nationals and current residents of a Sub-Saharan African country (candidates already living and/or studying in Europe are not eligible).
• Must be academic staff members of a university or equivalent higher education institution in Sub-Saharan Africa.
• Preferably hold doctoral/postdoctoral or equivalent academic status.
• Some host universities may restrict eligibility to applicants from specific Sub-Saharan African countries; applicants should check the “Remarks” section of each university’s offer.

What you'll do

• Conduct research visits at participating Coimbra Group universities in Europe.
• Continue research related to your work at your home institution.
• Foster academic and research collaborations with scientists and institutions based in Europe.
