The Kleinhans Fellowship for Community Forestry Research 2027 funds two-year research projects that address practical challenges faced by community forest enterprises.

What it offers

• A two-year stipend of US$20,000 per year.
• The fellowship does not subsidize academic tuition or fees, nor does it cover transport vehicles or unnecessary equipment.

Who can apply

• Applicants must have a master’s degree in forestry, ecology, botany, environmental science or an appropriate related field.
• Doctoral candidates or post-doctoral researchers are preferred, though relevant experience may substitute for higher-level degrees.

What you'll do

Research must address one of the following topics:

• Markets for lesser-known species and non-timber forest products (NTFPs).
• Biodiversity management practices.
• Social organization and governance.
• Multi-community enterprises. The planning, implementation and dissemination of research results will be carried out in a participatory manner to ensure practical value for communities.

• A proposal not exceeding seven typed pages, including an abstract, literature review, methodology and discussion of practical applications.
• A budget.
• A curriculum vitae or resume.
• Two letters of recommendation.
• A list of past, current and potential funding sources for both the applicant and the project.
