Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at University of Rwanda

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Rwanda identifies and supports academically talented young people facing significant social and economic barriers, equipping them with financial support, leadership training, and community engagement opportunities to become ethical leaders and change-makers across Africa.

What it offers

• Comprehensive financial support, including full tuition fees, fully paid on-campus accommodation, a laptop, and learning materials
• Academic mentorship, psychosocial support, leadership development training, entrepreneurship skills, internship opportunities, and networking with other young African leaders
• 90% of scholarships are for undergraduate study and 10% for Master’s programs

Who can apply

• Citizens of Rwanda or any African country, refugees, or displaced young people in Africa
• Academically qualified applicants who demonstrate leadership potential and a strong commitment to giving back to their communities
• The program targets young girls, youth with disabilities, refugees and/or displaced youth, and international students

How to apply

• Apply through an online application portal accessible via the program’s website
• The program is intended for newly admitted students who have not yet started their studies at the University of Rwanda

Good to know

• The program aims to enroll 1,200 scholars over 10 years
• 70%+ of scholars are female, 80%+ are enrolled in STEM fields, 25% are refugees, 15% are international students, and 10%+ have disabilities
