The Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) Isu Elihle Awards 2026

The Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) Isu Elihle Awards 2026 recognise African journalists who produce outstanding child-centred stories.

What it offers

• Up to R10 000 financial support for each of the top six finalists to research and develop their story.
• Overall winner: R30 000
• First runner up: R20 000
• Second runner up: R15 000
• Mandy Rossouw Category (“MRC”): between R10 000 and R20 000, awarded only if a story meets the category criteria.

Who can apply

• Professional journalists, whether employed or freelance, working anywhere in Africa.
• Entries must be submitted in English.

What you'll do

• Submit a story idea between 4 May – 4 June 2026.
• If shortlisted, produce and publish the full story in a mainstream media house of your choice.
• Finalists receive mentorship and must publish their stories between 12 August – 13 October 2026.

How to apply

• Submit your story idea via the official competition platform before 4 June 2026 at 23:59 CAT.
• Finalists must secure a mainstream media house to publish or broadcast their story.

Good to know

• The top three winners are guaranteed a cash prize; the Mandy Rossouw Category is conditional.
