Global Young Academy Opens Applications for 2027 Cohort of Outstanding Early-Career Researchers

The Global Young Academy (GYA) is inviting applications for its 2027 cohort of young, independent scholars who demonstrate research excellence and a commitment to societal impact.

What it offers

• Membership in a global organisation that supports young scientists and promotes science-for-policy, outreach, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Opportunity to contribute to GYA programmes and committees, with an expectation of at least 6 hours per month of active involvement.
• Attendance at the GYA Annual General Meeting in Indonesia from 21–25 June 2027 for selected members.

Who can apply

• Young, independent scholars from any research-based discipline, including natural, physical, and social sciences, arts and humanities, government, industry, or non-governmental sectors.
• PhD or equivalent degree required; applicants born in or after 1986 are eligible without restrictions.
• Applicants born before 1986 must have obtained their PhD in 2019 or later; those with a PhD before 2019 must submit a detailed justification.
• Demonstrated excellence in research and a clear commitment to making a societal impact.

What you'll do

• Actively contribute to GYA programmes and committees, such as science-for-policy activities, science outreach, education, science diplomacy, or collaboration with young academies and partners.
• Attend the Annual General Meeting in Indonesia (21–25 June 2027) if selected.

How to apply

• Submit an application before 15 September 2026, 18:00 UTC via the online form.
• Provide basic biographical information and respond to short essay questions in English.
• Upload:
  • A CV (maximum 4 pages) summarising education, employment, and key achievements.
  • At least one, but no more than three, letters of support from referees familiar with your research and societal engagement.
• Avoid including bibliometrics, university rankings, monetary amounts, or publication lists.
• Save progress and return later; the form takes at least 30 minutes to complete.

• Shortlisted candidates may undergo a second evaluation step.
