Africa CDC Epidemiology Track Fellowship Programme 2026

The Africa CDC Epidemiology Track Fellowship is a two-year applied epidemiology training program designed to strengthen disease prevention and response capacity across African Union Member States.

What it offers

• A full-time, two-year competency-based fellowship with three months of in-person didactic training in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, followed by 21 months of applied training in an African Union Member State.
• Core experiential learning activities including data analysis, surveillance system evaluation, and outbreak investigation.
• Financial support covering travel-related costs, stipends, hardware, software, and health insurance, as well as all learning and development materials.

Who can apply

• Citizens of African Union Member States.
• Individuals under the age of 35 (as defined by the African Union).
• Applicants must be employed in an African country with permission from their government institution to attend the two-year training and a guarantee to return to employment post-training.
• Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in one health or related fields (e.g., human medicine, nursing, veterinary medicine, environmental sciences, public health) or other doctoral-level training.
• Must have completed coursework in epidemiology or quantitative research methods and biostatistics.
• Require at least three years of recent full-time public health postgraduate experience in an African country.
• Ability to read and prepare technical medical and epidemiological communication materials.
• Proficiency in at least one African Union official language (English, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish, or Kiswahili) is required; knowledge of an additional AU official language is an asset.
• Advanced FETP Fellows and Graduates are not eligible.

What you'll do

• Participate in experiential Core Activities of Learning (CALs) such as data analysis, surveillance system evaluation, and outbreak investigation.
• Receive support from an expert supervisor and/or mentor throughout the fellowship.

  • An official letter of support with permission from a government institution to attend the two-year training with the right to return post-training.
  • Letters of recommendation from two reputable professional referees.
  • An official copy of degree certificate and transcripts (Bachelor’s or Master’s).
  • A brief curriculum vitae using the AU template.
  • A motivation statement (maximum 500 words) outlining why the program is a good fit and how the training will impact your country.
  • Optional: Evidence of additional relevant qualifications.
