World Bank Africa Fellowship Program 2027

The World Bank Group Africa Fellowship Program 2027 offers recent Ph.D. graduates and final-year Ph.D. candidates from Sub-Saharan Africa a six-month assignment to gain hands-on experience in development research and policy at World Bank offices.

What it offers

• A six-month assignment at WBG offices in Washington, D.C. or in country offices.
• Work on research, economic policy, technical assistance, and lending operations that support the WBG’s goals of eliminating poverty and increasing shared prosperity.

Who can apply

• Be a recent Ph.D. graduate (within three years of completion) or be enrolled in the last year of the Ph.D. program.
• Be a national of Sub-Saharan Africa.
• Have an excellent command of English, both written and verbal.
• Possess strong quantitative and analytical skills.
• Be 32 years of age or younger by January 1, 2027.
• Women are encouraged to apply.

What you'll do

• Spend six months gaining hands-on experience in WBG operations.
• Contribute to knowledge generation and dissemination, policy design, and institution building for inclusive growth in developing countries.

Good to know

• The selection process includes two phases:
  • Phase I: Shortlisted candidates will be matched to WBG units based on specialization.
  • Phase II: Final fellows are selected in consultation with WBG units.
• Only shortlisted applicants will be notified.
• Selected candidates will be hired as World Bank consultants for six months starting January 2027.
