SANSA 2027 Postgraduate Bursaries for STEM students

SANSA’s 2027 Postgraduate Bursaries support South African students pursuing honours, master’s or doctoral degrees in STEM fields to help meet national skills needs.

What it offers

• Honours: R150 000 per year
• Masters: R160 000 per year
• Doctoral: R170 000 per year

Who can apply

• South African students registered or intending to register in relevant science or engineering programmes
• Applicants must have an academic average of at least 65% for their most recent year of study

What you'll do

• Study towards an honours, master’s or doctoral qualification in fields including:
  • Earth observation, remote sensing, GIS
  • Environmental science, geography, geoinformatics
  • Computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, space science

How to apply

• Submit:
  • Full official university academic record (including 2026 mid-year or final results)
  • Official undergraduate fee statement or NSFAS letter
  • Certified ID copy (within 3 months of application)
  • For master’s: draft proposal (≤2 pages), signed and dated by applicant and proposed supervisor
  • For doctoral: draft proposal (≤4 pages), signed and dated by applicant and proposed supervisor
  • For master’s/doctoral: testimonial from a lecturer or proposed supervisor
