Field Biologist Volunteer

Le Fonds mondial pour la nature (WWF) Cameroun recrute un·e Volontaire Biologiste de Terrain pour le suivi et l’habituation des gorilles dans le Parc National de Campo Ma’an.

What it offers

• A one-year volunteer placement on Dipikar Island in Campo Ma’an National Park, with regular field work in gorilla monitoring zones.

Who can apply

• Minimum BEPC (lower secondary school certificate).
• Practical forest experience as a tracker, community eco-guard, research assistant or local guide.
• Prior involvement in gorilla or other large-mammal monitoring activities.
• Good knowledge of local forests and fauna, especially gorilla signs and tracking techniques.
• French language proficiency (read and write).
• Physical fitness and ability to work in remote forest conditions.
• Membership in a community bordering Campo Ma’an National Park.
• Willingness to live in an isolated area with limited supervision.

What you'll do

• Locate and track gorilla groups daily.
• Identify gorilla signs (nests, dung, footprints, feeding traces, vocalisations).
• Lead teams in gradual gorilla habituation approaches.
• Collect and record field data according to established protocols.
• Report illegal activities (poaching, traps, illegal resource extraction).
• Assist with ecological monitoring when required.
• Support community awareness on gorilla and habitat conservation.
• Maintain field equipment and camp operations, including health and biosecurity rules.
