The Gallagher Foundation Scholarship South Africa 2027 supports young leaders from South Africa who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and a commitment to positively impacting their country.

What it offers

• Membership in a community of scholars and alumni who share a commitment to ethical leadership and positive change.

Who can apply

• Citizens of South Africa who reflect academic achievement and leadership potential.
• Race, gender, and religion are not considered in selection.
• Must be entering their first year of university studies in 2027.
• Must be enrolled in a degree program lasting a maximum of 4 years or a 6-year medical degree program.
• Final selection is dependent upon acceptance to the University of Cape Town.
• Must display evidence of financial need.

What you'll do

• Show evidence of high ethical values, including a belief in progress without violence and a commitment to making a difference in South Africa.
• Demonstrate leadership potential through involvement in leadership activities such as special projects, awards, extracurricular activities, or service work.

How to apply

• Submit an application including four short essay questions.
• Upload the following documents:
  • Letter of Reference
  • High School Results
  • Proof of Income

Good to know

• Application opens June 12, 2026 and closes July 31, 2026.
• Applicants will be informed of their status in the next phase of the selection process by August 14, 2026.
• Final Gallagher Foundation candidates will be interviewed October 2-3, 2026.
• Candidates will be informed of the final selection of Gallagher Scholars by December 4, 2026, pending acceptance to the University of Cape Town.
