MFWA’s Training Workshop on Critical Coverage of Africa-China Trade, Investment & Political Relations for Journalists in Anglophone West Africa

The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) and the Wits Centre for Journalism are offering a three-day workshop to strengthen journalists’ ability to critically report on Africa–China relations.

What it offers

• Subject-matter briefings on trade, investment, politics, infrastructure, technology, labour, governance and international cooperation.
• Journalistic skills training for in-depth, public-interest coverage.
• Full coverage of participation costs: return economy-class flight, accommodation, meals and local transport.
• Story grants for producing in-depth stories after the workshop.
• Up to three journalists may receive fully-funded places at the Africa Investigative Journalism Conference (AIJC) in Nairobi, Kenya 10–12 November 2026.

Who can apply

• Journalists based in Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone or The Gambia.
• Working in print, radio, television or digital media.
• Reporting on politics, economy, business, trade, development, environment, extractives, infrastructure or international affairs.
• Able to secure a formal permission letter from their editor.
• Available in the last quarter of 2026 (September–October) and willing to travel to Accra, Ghana.
• Committed to producing in-depth stories after the training.
