The Code for Africa (CfA) Civic Graph Fellowship 2026

Do you want to help build open-source civic data and strengthen information integrity in South Africa? Code for Africa is offering seven part-time Civic Graph Fellowships to support partners in creating advanced open-source civic data projects.

What it offers

Who can apply

• Proficiency and strong working knowledge of Google Sheets and formulas
• Fluency in English, plus at least one of the following languages: Afrikaans, isiXhosa, isiZulu, Sepedi, Sesotho, Setswana
• Familiarity with collecting data from social media platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, X, YouTube, and Telegram
• Preferably analysts, technologists, or university students with a background in civic data
• Ability to adhere to open-source data collection standards
• Ability to maintain timely and open communication with the programme management team

What you'll do

• Support partners in building advanced open-source civic data projects
• Use standardised Open Civic data formats to ensure interoperability, transparency, and scalability
• Collect and verify data points and social media identifiers linked to Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs) and Politically Influential Persons (PIPs) in South Africa
• Work closely with the iLab team to manually gather and validate social media identifiers and populate structured civic data fields
• Use publicly available information and open-source intelligence techniques to collect relevant data points, including gender, official Facebook pages, X accounts, Instagram profiles, personal or campaign websites, and Wikipedia entries
• Apply quality control checks to verify the authenticity of social media identifiers
• Integrate verified PEP and PIP profiles alongside their associated social media accounts using the Troll Tracker platform
